Communism meets monopoly in unlikely new board game

January 25th, 2011 dailywail Comments off

Communist monopoly is set to hit stores in Poland this week: Europics.at

A Communist version of the Monopoly board game called Queue in which players have to…queue, has gone on sale in Poland.

Players of the Communist version get a list of 10 essential items like bread and toilet paper and have to travel around the board joining queues to get into state owned shops.

And instead of Chance and Community Chest, players can draw wild cards that get them sent to the front because of a Communist Party connection or see a shop closed down for ‘decadence’.

The game – created by the country’s National Remembrance Institute – is designed to show schoolchildren what life was like under the old Soviet era rule.

And it not only makes players understand shopping in Poland under communism.

The game’s creator Karol Madaj told the Austrian Times: “This also teaches them what queueing is like, something most people seem to have forgotten.”

Animal cruelty in China alive and well

Animal cruelty in China is clearly alive and well: Europics.at

Animal cruelty is clearly alive in China, judging by these astonishing pictures.

Locals attacked a wild boar in a city centre with sticks and clubs, before police shot the animal – and then ate it.

The huge pig had burst into a hospital complex in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, northern China, and charged at staff.

“It was mad with hunger and when we tried to stop it, the boar came after us,” said a hospital spokesman.

“No matter what we did we couldn’t drive it away.”

But when police arrived and finally cornered the 200lbs animal, rather than trap or tranquilise it they pumped 13 rounds from their handguns into it’s exhausted body – and then carted the carcass off to the local butcher.

One officer, who asked not to be named, told the Austrian Times: “He turned it into some very tasty cuts which we cooked and ate that night as a feast for the whole station.

“It’s sad he had to die but he made a delicious meal.

The farm girls stripped off for the sexy calendar

These farm girls have stripped off for a sexy calendar to raise money for charity.

The hot babes – all from real farming families – were selected from hundreds of entries for the calender.

The sexy collection is based on classic movie scenes from Hollywood films like Flashdance, Goldfinger and Mary Poppins.

Now shops in Austria, where it was made, say the steamy farm girls calender is flying off the shelves faster than they can stock it.

One of the farm girls explained: “Just because you’re from the country people think you’re a bit backward and unsophisticated.

“We wanted to show people just how classy we are.”

Elisabeth Koestinger, head of the Austrian Young Farmers Association, told the Austrian Times: “The sexy young farm girls calendar is helping to modernise the image of farmers.”

Four-year-old learns valuable lesson about how to correctly carry scissors

September 8th, 2010 dailywail Comments off

The good luck charms he was cutting up didn't work, obviously

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD has had a miracle escape after slipping over on a pair of razor-sharp scissors.

The tiny tot had been cutting up traditional good luck scrolls at his family home in China.

But when little Yuqi Lui’s father arrived home, the boy sprinted to the front door to meet him, tripped and the blades  slammed through his face and became embedded next to his brain.

His mother Fengshuang said: “I heard him shout ‘Papa!’ and run out.

“I looked out the window expecting to see him come into view and then suddenly I heard him scream.

“It was a terrible high pitched wail and my heart leapt into my mouth.

“I ran and when I got to him I saw the huge pair of scissors that he had been using to cut up the scrolls was jutting from his face.”

The child’s parents borrowed a farm truck for an agonising ride around local hospitals seeking treatment for their stricken son.

And after 17 hours on the road, surgeons at Beijing’s Capital Institute of Pediatrics at the Xiehe Hospital agreed to operate.

X-rays showed the blades had only been stopped from reaching Yuqi’s brain because thet had caught on his jawbone.

His mother added:”He told us that if the scissors had been pulled out when the accident happened our son would have died.”

Yuqi has now made a full recovery after two weeks in hospital.

“It cost us all the savings we had but it was worth it to get the sunshine back into our lives,” added his relieved mother.

One in five Brits don’t know where air comes from

Trees have evolved to provide shade, according to most Brits

NEARLY a fifth of Britons don’t know trees produce oxygen.

Instead, almost everyone in the UK thinks plantlife has evolved to ‘provide animal habitats’, according to a survey.

A further 78 per cent believe that trees ‘are there for shade’ and 74 per cent claiming that the only reason forests exist is to provide fruit.

Even more worryingly, although 71 per cent said they believed the oak was Britain’s most identifiable national tree, a third of them admitted they don’t know what it looks like.

The poll was commissioned to support the launch of toilet roll maker Velvet’s ‘Campaign for Trees’ campaign.

Supermodel and ethical campaigner Erin O’Connor said: “There is a real need to educate people.

“Trees benefit us all – they provide the air that we all breathe.”

Woman takes dog for walk…while driving along a freeway

The woman driver thought she'd go for a drive...and walk her dog at the same time

IN CHINA animal cruelty is a national pastime.

But even the locals were shocked when this woman driver took her dog for a walk…on a major freeway.

Fellow drivers – including one man on a rickshaw – could barely believe their eyes when they spotted the pooch being taken for his morning walkies in the slow lane.

The black Nissan crawled along at just a few miles per hour while the animal doggedly padded along the highway in Sanya, central China.

“There are some lazy people around but to be so lazy you walk your dog by car really takes it to a new level,” one passer told the Austrian Times.

The best music video ever made: Ukelele Boy’s Jason Mraz cover version is racing up the YouTube charts

July 27th, 2010 dailywail Comments off

JASON Mraz had his first worldwide hit with I’m Yours – propelling him to international superstardom.

But now his thunder has been stolen on YouTube…by a small boy with a cheap ukelele.

The 32-year-old American sold more than three million copies of the feelgood song, shooting him to the top of charts all over the world.

But the Asian kid on YouTube – armed only with the tiny instrument – is hot on his heels.

His ludicrous cover version has already had 300,000 views – more than some versions of Mraz’s original – and is growing more popular by the day.

Nobody knows the infant’s name or how old he is. Hell, he can barely speak. But he can play.

And , for those who can’t even tell the difference, here’s the original:

Ah, Rome: The birthplace of civilsation…and floating sofas

The sofa floating in the middle of Rome's Tiber River

ROME, according to Titus Livius, was a city overwhelmed by its own greatness.

Well, it looks like a few things have changed since Livy choked his last in AD 17…now it’s just overwhelmed by crap.

This shocking picture of the supposedly beautiful Tiber River in the city has sparked a national outcry in Italy.

The country has been painstakingly slow to confront its environmental problems with the nation’s rivers and coasts polluted by industrial and agricultural contaminants – and its lakes contaminated by acid rain.

Italian Environmental groups have long criticised the failure of central government and regional authorities to tackle the problems of pollution have now used this photo to highlight the scandal.

Green campaigner Tito Longo, 36, from the association ‘Biciroma‘ that wants more people to use cycles and dump cars said: “The bizarre image of this dumped sofa in the middle of the Tiber River and against the background of Rome should highlight people that this is a problem on our doorsteps that will not go away unless we act.”

Manhole cover museum

If you're interested in manhole covers the museum will provide you with hours of entertainment

THIS is the most boring museum in the history of the world - unless you’re inexplicably interested in manhole covers.

The International Manhole Cover Museum has opened in Farrara, Italy to widespread public disinterest.

Creator Stefano Bottoni claims the manhole is an underrated art form that should be celebrated.

Bottoni, who studied at the Academy of Arts in Bologna, said: “Manholes are not often regarded as artistic creations yet they are rich in tradition, culture and history.”

The museum has an enormous collection of manhole covers from all over the world including Amsterdam, Havana, Helsinki, Prague, Rome, Bucharest, Sarajevo and Vienna.

Bottoni is hoping to get his first manhole cover from the UK this year, and has appealed for anybody with access to British manhole covers to get in touch.
