Woman survives 200ft fall from window…because she was wearing a puffa jacket

A STUDENT survived this astonishing 18-storey drop from an apartment block because she was wearing a thick winter coat.

Xia Ou, 26, had been hanging washing on her balcony in Beijing, China, when she slipped over the railing and hurtled nearly 200ft to the ground below.

She was found still conscious by a startled neighbour walking his dog after bouncing off a bush and then into a five inch deep snow drift, say police.

Amazed medics at Peking University Hospital have treated her for multiple fractures but say she will make a full recovery thanks to the snow, the bush and, crucially, a puffa jacket she was wearing when she fell.

Experts at the hospital estimate that she was travelling at nearly 70 mph when she hit the ground.

Professor Wing Zhang explained: “It would have been devastating if she had hit the ground directly.”

He told the Austrian Times: “Thanks to the cushioning effects of the tree, the snow and her jacket, the damage was greatly reduced.”

A WOMAN has given birth to FOUR identical boys – at odds of 3,500,000-1.

Knackered Chen Liling knew she was expecting more than one baby.

But the 24-year-old pumped out four of the buggers in Jinxing, southern China.

She wheezed: “I am delighted but very tired – and I don’t think I’ll be getting much sleep.”

Doctors at the local Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital said the quads were delivered by caesarean section.

”We arranged a C-section for the mother, and within five minutes, all the little ones came out,” said Dr Song Yuling.

Medics say the tots weighed in at 3lbs 6oz, 3lbs 5oz, 3lbs 1oz, and 2lbs 13oz and all four are doing well in incubators.

“One has some breathing difficulties but we are overcoming that and they will all be healthy enough to leave with their mother soon,” a hospital spokesman told the Austrian Times.

Introducing…padded car parks for women drivers

The car park spaces are pink, which is a pretty colour women can see Europics.at

PADDED car parks are being introduced at shopping centres across China in a desperate bid to cope with the menace of women drivers.

Dozens of centres  in the north of the country now feature sections with wider spaces and colour coded walls to make them easier for women to spot.

The purple and pink colour scheme is also supposed to ‘ease the anxiety’ women feel when trying to reverse into a parking space.

And even the pillars are padded with foam to soften the impact of shunts.

Wang Zheng, boss of one of the shopping centres in Hebei, said: ”There is a scientific basis for all this.

“Women have a poorer sense of distance when they are locked inside a small space.

“That is why female drivers often bump the front and back of their cars.

“There is also a 15 per cent greater chance that a woman will drive her car door into another car when she opens it.”

He told the Austrian Times: “Each parking space is three metres wide, much larger than normal parking spaces and there is more CCTV to help women feel safer.”

Medics and firefighters try to free Peng's right arm from the meat grinder

THIS horrified worker got his right forearm mangled by a meat grinder when a co-worker turned on the switch by accident.

The 18-year-old was cleaning the grinder after work when a colleague accidentally turned on the machine, sucking his right arm into the grinder.

The victim, a Mr Peng, was rapidly transferred to Bujie Hospital in southern China’s Guangdong province – along with the machinery.

“I heard a scream so turned it off ,” said the terrified co-worker.

Mr Peng was finally freed several hours later by medics and firefighters using heavy cutting equipment.

His right arm was badly fractured, but miraculously does not need to be amputated.

DOCTORS have saved a toddler who fell while trying to walk – and stabbed a chopstick into his brain.

Chao Chao – just 14 months old – was playing by himself at his family home in Shandong, eastern China, when he slipped and fell on the chopstick sending it straight up through his nose.

His parents drove 10 hours to Beijing to a specialist head injury hospital where medics managed to remove the stick during a four hour operation.

“We got to it before any infection set in and he should make a full recovery.

“Although it pierced his brain, it doesn’t seem to have done any long term damage,” head surgeon Dr Sun Wei told the Austrian Times.

A THIEF kept police at bay for more than an hour before they realised that dynamite and detonators strapped around his waist were really sausages.

Sing He, 23, threatened to blow up a restaurant in Benxi, northern China, unless the owners handed him the day’s takings.

But it was only when a specialist bomb squad arrived that cops realised the bangers were made of pork.

“When we saw what he had round his waist we couldn’t help laughing. Some of the sausages still had the wrappers on them,” said one bomb squad officer.

“It must have been terrifying for the customers but those things would only have gone off if you’d kept them past their sell by date.”

He told police he’d planned the raid because he was depressed after breaking up with his girlfriend.

“I needed some excitement in my life and to that extent it was a success,” he explained.

DRIVING Home for Christmas is a popular song with truckers at this time of year.

But Road to Hell, another Chris Rea hit, would have been a bit more apt for unlucky motorists on this stretch of highway.

This incredible picture shows what happened when rain fell on a full truck of dangerous chemicals - causing the road itself to burst into flames.

One driver who saw the chaos unfold in Hangzhiou, eastern China, said: “There were flames everywhere. It was like a mini-apocalpyse.”

So Zhang, 26, was transporting calcium carbide, which is widely used in steel production.

It is a harmless compound when dry but burns spectacularly when it mixes with water.

The truck had been watertight before theives – who fled once they realised chemicals were onboard – badly damaged the waterproof covers.

A police spokesman added: “Everything was OK until it started to rain.

“The water got through the damaged covers and then into the bags which went off like bombs.

“The driver was lucky to get out alive.”

‘Arranged marriages aren’t so bad,’ says 100-year-old after 85 happy years

A COUPLE who were forced into an unwanted marriage in 1924 have spoken of their happiness…85 years later.

Liu Fuben, 95, was just 10-years-old when he wed Shi Jihui, now 100.

At the time, neither wanted – or even understood - the arranged marriage.

But nearly a century later they’re blissfully happy and claim they barely ever even argue.

Liu said: “We are still very much in love and always will be.

“As to the secret of a long marriage, I just remember the golden rule – she’s always right.”

His wife Shi added: “It’s true I am – but that doesn’t stop him doing what he wants anyway.

“In our village at that time, men used to marry at a very young age. The wife tended to be several years older than the man.”

When the Beijingers married, Adolf Hitler had just started writing Mein Kampf and US President Jimmy Carter wasn’t even born.

The couple’s son Liu Shuxi, 64, said: “They still really love each other.”

They had six children, but only two survived.

“My mother still takes very good care of my father,” Liu added.

The cat has become a national hero

A PET cat has become a national hero in China after learning how to use a human loo.

The cheeky pussy’s antics have earned her godlike status in the country, where half of the rural population don’t even have an indoor toilet themselves.

The aptly-named Miao Mi, has learned to patiently wait for public WCs to become vacant in Chongqing, southern China, before she enters.

Owner Fang Deng, 32, said: “When she uses the toilet she squats at the edge; the posture is exactly the same as us.

“After doing her business, she takes a peek and then uses her paw to flush the toilet.”
