Woman takes dog for walk…while driving along a freeway

The woman driver thought she'd go for a drive...and walk her dog at the same time

IN CHINA animal cruelty is a national pastime.

But even the locals were shocked when this woman driver took her dog for a walk…on a major freeway.

Fellow drivers – including one man on a rickshaw – could barely believe their eyes when they spotted the pooch being taken for his morning walkies in the slow lane.

The black Nissan crawled along at just a few miles per hour while the animal doggedly padded along the highway in Sanya, central China.

“There are some lazy people around but to be so lazy you walk your dog by car really takes it to a new level,” one passer told the Austrian Times.

TOWN hall chiefs in Eastern Europe have given up on trying to stop drink drivers – and are now warning them about drunk pedestrians instead.

Road safety bosses in Romania – where accidents involving alcohol are at record levels – have put up traffic signs warning motorists of drunks wandering the streets.

Mayor Petru Antal ordered the signs – saying ‘Attention – Drunks’.

They come complete with an image of a reveller on his knees with a bottle and have been put up in Pecica, where officials have virtually given up on boozy locals ever following the law.

“We are a border town and have lots of cars thundering through here all the time,” Mayor Antal told the Romanian Times.

“But we also have a very vibrant nightlife and the two don’t mix.

“We have to target the drivers because by the time they get to this state the pedestrians are beyond caring.”

A BARMY motorist has been banned by police after converting a beer crate into a mini quad bike.

The micro machine was given its last orders after Wolfi Maier, 24, tried to outrun cops on the booze machine in Dautphetal, Germany.

The biker said he had only just finished the vehicle and claimed it was on the way to a test drive at a private racing track.

“It looked good but it was not licensed to travel on the road – so we confiscated it,” one officer said.

“The vehicle featured a tuned-up engine that normally only goes about 15mph but this was much quicker.”

He added: “It would certainly make drink driving more risky.”

Police told the Austrian Times the vehicle could yet be returned if the owner promised not to use it on the public roads again.

Pair of clowns fined £110 for speeding

POLICE stopped a couple of jokers when they zoomed through a speed trap in full clown costumes.

Driver Martina Oberle, 31, had the smile wiped off her face after she was fined £110 for speeding in Moerschwil, Switzerland.

Officers initially thought Martina and pal Bettina Blauch, 26, who were wearing blonde wigs and with full clown make up, had dressed up for a prank.

But they were actually late for a fancy dress party when they were caught doing 60mph in a 45mph zone.

“I saw the flash and though ‘S**t – that’s going to look strange to the police’,” Martina told the Austrian Times.

MEET the most rubbish binmen in the world.

This previously clean and well kept road became a stinking tip overnight when trash collectors simply dumped their loads in the street when their shift ended.

Residents in Zhengzhou, central China, woke up to find tons of stinking rubbish all over the roadside causing chaos for morning commuters.

More than 50 refuse collectors and 28 trucks spent a whole day clearing away the trash before the street was back to normal again.

One official said: “The binmen have a work dispute and had been delayed on their round by fog.”

He told the Austrian Times: “So the minute their shift ended they emptied the trucks where they were and went home.”

Driver ploughs through wall because Sat-Nav ‘told him to’

THIS six-hundred-year-old medieval city gatehouse was destroyed when the driver of a giant frozen food lorry followed his Sat-Nav to the letter.

Police believe the 47-year-old driver’s gadget told him to go through the ancient gate – built in the 1400s – in Schaerding, Austria, despite a strict ban on trucks in the historic city centre. So he did.

The gatehouse, before the Sat-Nav got involved

Astonishingly residents in an apartment attached to the side of the gate – who would normally have been watching TV in the lounge – survived because they’d decided on an early night because there was “nothing worth watching”.

One neighbour said: “He hit the arch and it didn’t look too serious – and then the whole wall fell away.
“The driver must be a fool because anyone could see he wouldn’t make it.”
The arch was lovingly restored in the 1950s, after sustaining damage in World War II, reports the Austrian Times.

Introducing…padded car parks for women drivers

The car park spaces are pink, which is a pretty colour women can see Europics.at

PADDED car parks are being introduced at shopping centres across China in a desperate bid to cope with the menace of women drivers.

Dozens of centres  in the north of the country now feature sections with wider spaces and colour coded walls to make them easier for women to spot.

The purple and pink colour scheme is also supposed to ‘ease the anxiety’ women feel when trying to reverse into a parking space.

And even the pillars are padded with foam to soften the impact of shunts.

Wang Zheng, boss of one of the shopping centres in Hebei, said: ”There is a scientific basis for all this.

“Women have a poorer sense of distance when they are locked inside a small space.

“That is why female drivers often bump the front and back of their cars.

“There is also a 15 per cent greater chance that a woman will drive her car door into another car when she opens it.”

He told the Austrian Times: “Each parking space is three metres wide, much larger than normal parking spaces and there is more CCTV to help women feel safer.”

Driving home for Christmas…more like the Road to Hell!

DRIVING Home for Christmas is a popular song with truckers at this time of year.

But Road to Hell, another Chris Rea hit, would have been a bit more apt for unlucky motorists on this stretch of highway.

This incredible picture shows what happened when rain fell on a full truck of dangerous chemicals - causing the road itself to burst into flames.

One driver who saw the chaos unfold in Hangzhiou, eastern China, said: “There were flames everywhere. It was like a mini-apocalpyse.”

So Zhang, 26, was transporting calcium carbide, which is widely used in steel production.

It is a harmless compound when dry but burns spectacularly when it mixes with water.

The truck had been watertight before theives – who fled once they realised chemicals were onboard – badly damaged the waterproof covers.

A police spokesman added: “Everything was OK until it started to rain.

“The water got through the damaged covers and then into the bags which went off like bombs.

“The driver was lucky to get out alive.”

Woman driver accidentally destroys half a car park…while trying to slow down

It is not known what would have happened if she had succeeded in braking

The 'accelerate while braking' maneouvre has not been widely used by motorists before Pic: Europics.at

A WOMAN driver has caused more than £9,000 worth of damage and destroyed dozens of shopping trolleys after pressing the accelerator pedal instead of the brake.

Angela Wohlmeyer was trying to slow down her BMW outside a supermarket in Muenster, Germany.

But as our picture shows, the 27-year-old found it all far too confusing and sped up instead – leading to this mountain of wreckage.

“I don’t know what happened,” she told the Austrian Times.

“I just seemed to mix up the pedals.”

She now faces a battle with her insurance company to get them to pay for the damage.

‘After 300 yards, stop, turn around…and die’: Your sat nav could kill you, police warn

SAT NAVS are going to kill people because idiot drivers follow their instructions ‘blindly’, police chiefs have warned.

Dozens of motorists have been caught on CCTV turning around their vehicles in high-speed tunnels  despite the threat of oncoming traffic –  ”because their sat navs told them to”

And now furious Swiss cops have spoken out about the perils of the satellite navigation systems.

They have published traffic images from the notorious Gotthard tunnel to illustrate how crazed drivers make u-turns as traffic approaches at more than 50 mph.

Damian Meier, head of traffic police in the Swiss province of Uri, said: “This is not an isolated case. More and more drivers are asked by their sat navs to take a u-turn in the Gotthard tunnel.”

He added: “The majority of drivers taking a u-turn in the tunnel are from abroad.”

Meier told the Austrian Times the sat navs often ‘revise’ the route after entering the underpass and advise drivers to turn around and take a local bypass instead.
