Communism meets monopoly in unlikely new board game

Communist monopoly is set to hit stores in Poland this week: Europics.at

A Communist version of the Monopoly board game called Queue in which players have to…queue, has gone on sale in Poland.

Players of the Communist version get a list of 10 essential items like bread and toilet paper and have to travel around the board joining queues to get into state owned shops.

And instead of Chance and Community Chest, players can draw wild cards that get them sent to the front because of a Communist Party connection or see a shop closed down for ‘decadence’.

The game – created by the country’s National Remembrance Institute – is designed to show schoolchildren what life was like under the old Soviet era rule.

And it not only makes players understand shopping in Poland under communism.

The game’s creator Karol Madaj told the Austrian Times: “This also teaches them what queueing is like, something most people seem to have forgotten.”

Communist monopoly is a little greyer than the traditional version

Buried alive: Beekeeper has narrow escape after medics mistake sting for a fatal heart attack and put him in a sealed coffin

Buried alive: Jozef Guzy has a bowl of soup, just because he still can (Europics.at)

AN elderly beekeeper was nearly buried alive after he got stung – and woke up inside a coffin.

Doctors thought Jozef Guzy, 76, had suffered a heart attack and when the emergency doctor arrived in an ambulance he was declared dead.

Within three hours he was placed inside a coffin, which was immediately sealed shut.

What you could have won...the coffin was nearly a shut case for the beekeeper

He was then driven to the undertakers and put in a storeroom, but the mistake was discovered when Guzy woke up and started to shout for help.

Undertaker Darius Charon said: “He was shouting and banging on the coffin – he made enough noise to raise the dead so we couldn’t miss him.

“He had a lucky escape – there is not a lot of air in those coffins. And he did need some medical attention.”

Ambulance Service spokesman Jerzy Wisniewski said the emergency doctor involved had apologised.

He said that the medic had not taken the cold weather in Katowice southern Poland, into account.

“The patient was not apparently breathing and the body had cooled – the usual characteristics of death,” he said.

Mr Guzy told the Austrian Times: “The undertaker saved my life. The first thing I did when I got out of hospital was take him a pot of honey.”

Adolf Hitler loved rock music: Nightclub owners arrested in Nazi row

NIGHTCLUB bosses have been arrested under anti-fascist laws for using pictures of Adolf Hitler to promote their bar.

Sklot rock club in Warsaw, Poland, doctored a picture of the Nazi leader wearing sunglasses above a Third Reich eagle for posters plugging the club’s party nights.

Now the owners are facing two years in prison for promoting fascism, strictly illegal in Poland which was occupied by German troops in World War II.

“The content of this poster which uses images to promote fascism is a crime,” said Renata Mazur from Warsaw’s prosecutor’s office.

But club bosses say the row is just a storm in a tea cup.

“The idea is that Hitler isn’t happy with the condition of Warsaw clubs so he plans to invade and make them better,” club spokesman Kalina Koslinska told the Austrian Times.

“It’s just a bit of fun.”

Dead drunk: Banjaxed hospital porters arrested for ‘abusing’ corpse

SHOCKING CCTV footage of hospital porters so drunk they dropped a body on the way to a post mortem is being investigated after the victim’s horrified relatives complained to police.
The 38 and 47-year-old porters dropped the corpse from the trolley as they weaved unsteadily through the corridors at a hospital in Legmica, Poland, on their way to the morgue.

The pair were so drunk they dropped the body repeatedly as they tried to host it back onto the gurney.

Eventually, the porters gave up and simply dragged the corpse to the autopsy room.

Police say they are interviewing two men arrested over the scandal.

“We are investigating this matter. It is possible that this was abuse of a corpse,” police spokesman Slawomir Masojc told the Austrian Times.
